Coffee
Coffee is a bush belonging to the Rubiaceae family, original from Sudan and Ethiopia. The shape of its seeds is similar to the seeds of small red cherries.
The plant is cultivated mainly in tropical and subtropical countries. Brazil has a bit more than a third of the global production.
Coffee is the drink obtained by toasting and grinding the seeds inside the fruit of the coffee plant.
It is a highly stimulating drink because of its caffeine content, and one of the most sociable non-alcoholic drinks in many countries.
The most popular ways to drink it are: black or white coffee, with or without sugar. Cream or condensed milk, chocolate or some liquor can be added. It is usually served hot, but it can also be consumed cold or with ice.
In Spain, Portugal, Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina, it is commonly consumed roasted or in the “torrefacto” way, which is roasted with sugar.
