Horse mackerel
They are pelagic, migratory fish that live in schools.
They are characterized by their big scales and spikes in their lateral line. They are around 25 cm long. When they are 4 years old they can reach up to 40 cm. They are caught in Spain from April to September, passing the winter in northern deeper seas without feeding.
They can be bought fresh, smoked, frozen and canned.
They are mainly fried, roasted in an oven or grilled. They are oily saltwater fish.
