Strawberries grow in strawberry bushes, a plant from the Rosaceae family and the Fragaria genus.

They provide low calories and their biggest component after water is carbohydrates (fructose, glucose and xylitol). These fruits are thought to have several properties mainly for its abundance of vitamin C, bigger than that of citruses.

Depending on the types, strawberry bushes bloom from the ending of winter until the start of summer, which is why the fruits ripe during all spring and well into summer; from March to July.

The heat, the transportation and the moisture are its biggest enemies, making them go bad with much ease due to their delicate, tender and not very consistent structure.

They are preserved best if they are kept in the fridge or in a cool, dark and fresh place, as spread as possible in a dish or a bowl. They can be preserved for 4 to 5 days this way if they are not that ripe.
