The scientific name for the sawfish is Pristis.
They are found in the great estuaries of the Orinoco and other rivers from northeast South America.
Sawfishes look similar to sharks, their average length is 300 centimeters and they weigh about 310 kg.
Their body is usually grey with a white underside. Their most notable characteristic is their sawlike snout with spikes which they use to catch prey, defend themselves against other predators and stir up the ocean floor to find food.
This species is endangered, their meat is not highly appreciated but it is sought after among fishermen as a fishing trophy.
