Commonly known as death cap, it has a cap of 5 to 15 cm, with a yellow/greenish colour that may vary, it is sometimes almost white. Darker on the centre. White gills with slight yellow/greenish reflections. White stipe with green stripes. White membranous ring that can be pulled by rain. Membranous vulva, like an independent sac on the border.

White fibrous flesh, with an attractive smell in young mushrooms but stinky when maturity is reached. Sweet taste. It’s a common mycorrhiza and it’s abundant in broad leafs forests and less abundant among coniferous.

DEADLY. It causes 90% of the deaths for mushroom poisoning in Spain. It can be mistaken with other edible mushroom species.
