Molluscs

The habitat of cockles is quite wide because these bivalve molluscs can endure extreme environmental conditions.

They have two heart-shaped and articulated shells, and between 22 and 28 prominent ribs. They also have a muscular foot that ends in an arrowhead shape that it uses for moving.

Cockle shoals are sediments made of thin sand or slime, and they are located between the coastal strip and 10 m depths. This species grows fast and lives for a short time, approximately three years. It can reach 3-4 cm in size in a year or two. Its diet is basically composed of tiny plants and animals they find in their sandy environment.
